What's involved?

User experience design (UX design) is the process of designing digital products, such as websites, applications, and software, with a focus on creating a positive and meaningful experience for the end user. The goal of UX design is to make digital products intuitive, easy to use, and enjoyable for users.

UX design encompasses a range of activities, including user research, usability testing, interaction design, information architecture, and user interface (UI) design, also known as visual design. UX designers work to understand the needs and behaviours of users through research and testing, and then use that knowledge to design products that meet those needs and are easy to use.

Throughout the design process, UX designers conduct usability testing to ensure that the product meets the needs and expectations of users. This involves observing users as they interact with the product and adjusting the design based on their feedback.

Why is it important?

UX design is a critical aspect of creating digital products that meet the needs and expectations of users. By focusing on user needs and behaviours, UX designers can create products that are intuitive, easy to use, and enjoyable for users, leading to better user engagement and increased business success.

Design standards

There are a number of design standards to take into consideration during the user experience design process, including:

  1. NSW Government Design standards
  2. NSW Government Brand standards,
  3. Use of the NSW Digital Design System if a brand exemption has not been obtained

  5. Design and functionality must be responsive across common devices, screen resolutions and browsers as outlined in the NSW Digital framework.
